The cruise ship Norwegian Sky, owned by Norwegian Cruise Line, was built in Germany and set sail on its maiden voyage in 1999. It underwent a renovation in 2008 and a major refurbishment in 2013. This white, 13-deck beauty is 260 meters long and 32 meters wide and can carry 1,928 passengers and 766 crew members on board. It is maneuverable enough to enter locations and ports that cannot accommodate larger ships.

From 2004 to 2008, the ship sailed under the name Pride of Aloha, which is why it is decorated in a Hawaiian style, and its hull features a bright lei wreath, making the liner easily recognizable.

Currently, the Norwegian Sky operates three- and four-day cruises from Miami to the Bahamas with stops at Grand Bahama, Great Stirrup Cay, Freeport, and Nassau. Starting in 2017, the ship began calling at Cuba.

Facilities:

  • 7 restaurants and cafes, 12 bars and lounges
  • 2 outdoor pools, 5 hot tubs, spa
  • basketball and volleyball courts, gym, treadmill, mini-golf course
  • beauty salon, hair salon
  • theater
  • casino and nightclub
  • internet café
  • library
  • shopping center

Accommodations

Passengers are offered comfortable cabins in four categories, each of which is further divided into 4–6 types. Each cabin features a bathroom (shower, toilet) with a hairdryer, comfortable furniture, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a TV, a telephone, a safe, and other amenities necessary for a comfortable stay.

Dining

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced its unique Freestyle Cruising concept, which offers travelers a great deal of freedom. Without being tied to a schedule or adhering to a strict dress code, you can dine at any restaurant, at any table, at any time that suits you.

Passengers can enjoy a variety of dishes at the two main complimentary restaurants, the Palace Restaurant and the Crossings Restaurant, as well as grab a bite to eat and a drink at the buffets and cafes, or take food to go. A wide selection of culinary delights will satisfy every taste, with a new menu every day, dishes from the head chef, and carefully selected recommendations for wines and other beverages.

By the way, starting in January 2016, alcohol is included in the cruise price; additional charges apply only for premium brands. Meals at restaurants and cafes open at night, as well as room service, are also subject to additional charges.

Activities and Entertainment

It’s no wonder the Norwegian Sky is called a floating resort. You can truly relax here. But there are many ways to unwind: you can choose to soak up the sun and take it easy, or you can dive into an exciting array of sports activities or cultural programs.

  • For water activities, there are swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas. There are also plenty of options for sports and fitness.
  • The Mark Twain Library and the Hawai’i Conference Hall are venues for engaging gatherings and themed evenings.
  • The Zone—the teen area—features video and computer games, jukeboxes, foosball, and air hockey.
  • Animators work with the children, and there are also activities in age-specific clubs. For the youngest guests, there is a nursery, and parents will receive a pager notification if their assistance is needed to resolve an issue.
  • Evening entertainment for adults includes the Sky Club Casino, a nightclub, and a cabaret.
  • For those who can’t get away from business, there’s a business center with meeting rooms.
  • There’s even a chapel!

Every day, the ship distributes brochures listing the day’s activities to help guests make their choices. But choosing won’t be easy, as you’ll have to pick from a dozen fascinating and vibrant shows, performances, games, and other interactive activities. By the way, shopping is also a form of entertainment—and it’s available even on the open sea!

Choose the Norwegian Sky for a cruise with a laid-back vibe. First-class service and a sea of experiences are guaranteed!
