If you’re thinking about becoming a mother, this article is for you.
Planning a pregnancy is the first step toward giving birth to a healthy—and therefore happy—baby. In reality, the preparation stage doesn’t require much from you, but even these seemingly simple steps will help you welcome your little one with peace of mind and confidence.
So, where to start?
Of course, with the health of the expectant mother. A woman’s body undergoes countless changes while carrying a baby, so the mother’s physical and emotional health is paramount! In this regard, we recommend:
- Be sure to check your health and, if necessary, seek treatment. Special attention should be paid to gynecological health in this regard. A consultation with a gynecologist and a basic checkup with all essential tests is an absolute must!
- Consult a dentist. Unfortunately, not all expectant mothers follow this recommendation. However, it’s important to remember that during fetal development, the baby builds its skeleton using the mother’s calcium and phosphorus. Therefore, the mother’s teeth undergo a serious test of strength and very often begin to deteriorate. Additionally, if you have a toothache, the problem may worsen in nine months (or sooner), and treatment (let alone anesthesia) during pregnancy or breastfeeding is highly undesirable and sometimes strictly contraindicated. Consult your doctor and tell them that you are planning to become a mother. Trust me, they will give you valuable recommendations on nutrition, oral care, and, if necessary, prescribe calcium supplements.
- For the sake of the future baby’s health, mom (and dad too!) should give up harmful habits. This is very important! We’ve been told about the dangers of alcohol and smoking since childhood. But it’s worth reminding you that, for example, the risk of complications during pregnancy is nearly 50% higher for a woman who smokes than for a non-smoker. In addition, due to vasoconstriction caused by the mother’s smoking, the unborn child always experiences oxygen deprivation, which directly affects the child’s development. It is clearly better if both parents give up these harmful habits.
- Take time for yourself, my dear! The emotional health and mood of the expectant mother are the foundation of everything!
- Lead a healthy lifestyle. Simple things make our lives brighter, happier, and, surprisingly, healthier! So take more walks in the fresh air, exercise, eat a balanced diet, stick to a daily routine, and try to minimize the impact of negative factors and stress on your body. It’s never too late to start. However, remember that the moment before conception is unique, that pregnancy is an incredible joy, and that your baby’s health depends on you!
It’s great if the future dad follows these recommendations alongside you.
